Comfort Keepers has been serving Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, and surrounding areas since 2001. Owners Al and Danielle Brooks cared for their own parents as their parents aged and required more help. This experience motivated Al and Danielle to help others in their area care for loved ones in ways that made these loved ones’ lives easier and fuller.
Danielle managed marketing and sales for local assisted living organization for eight years. She also worked with organizations that provide in home care for the elderly in Mishawaka and St. Joseph County. Her reputation for detail, pleasantness, and attention to the needs of clients is known widely as a result of these experiences. Former clients still call Danielle for help. Danielle’s approach is hands on. She regularly visits clients in their homes, discusses their needs and how Comfort Keepers is meeting those needs. Danielle is friendly with many clients’ families and in some cases, is considered part of the family.
Experience has taught Danielle and Al that seniors often prefer to live in their own homes as long as possible. In honor of this, Comfort Keepers develops in home care plans that allow clients live at home for as long as they desire. To help achieve this, our caregivers provide live-in and short-term care service s that ensures that clients live safely and happily at home. These services include housekeeping, transportation, bathing assistance, medication administration, and meal preparation, among others.
Our interactive caregiving services allow us to tailor our programs to the specific needs of individuals. Accompanying clients to religious services, attending sporting events like a Notre Dame women’s basketball game, enjoying a doughnut from Krispy Kreme, and dining at Papa Vinos or Cheddars are all things that we do to meet these specific needs. Among other things that we do to serve clients are shopping at the local stores and University Park Mall and playing golf at Eberhart-Petro Municipal Golf Course. Regardless of the activity, we help our clients stay social and engaged with the community.
We are strong supporters of REAL Services and Chapter #270 of the Greater St. Joseph division of the AARP. Al, Danielle, and many of our caregivers have family members who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Our familiarity with Alzheimer’s and dementia allows us to care for clients who suffer from these diseases with great skill.
We devote time and money to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana and are very active with the Michiana Gerontology Institute. We serve on institute committees and sponsor an annual conference and the annual Senior Fair. Al and the marketing department communicate with local organizations about in home care. These communications help Comfort Keepers provide healthier and safer environments for our clients.
We work closely with the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and hospices like Harbor Light, the Center for Hospice, and Heartland Hospice. We also work with skilled in-home nursing providers like Great Lakes Caring, Total Home Health Services, and Interim Skilled Nursing. We also work with independent and assisted living skilled nursing homes in the Mishawaka area.
