Allan Brooks Owns the Granger, IN Branch of Comfort Keepers and is Committed to Providing Excellent Elderly Care Services.
In 2001, my mother turned 79. She’d been a widow for quite some time and had done well living on her own. But that year, she experienced some significant health issues, and her ability to remain living in her own home was at risk. Just like 90% of older Americans, Mom did not want to leave her home; she was comfortable there, and she had developed relationships – sometimes life-long in nature – with many of her neighbors. My wife and I began searching for someone who could come to Mom’s house to provide in-home health services and help her get dressed, fix meals, and do some light housekeeping…but also to be a companion for Mom since she was no longer able to get out on her own. Well, we spoke with so many people – agencies that were ‘brokers’ for self-employed caregivers, agencies that provided caregivers who were employees – but we just weren't happy with any of the options available in our area.
After much searching, we found Comfort Keepers’ website for in-home health services, and we were impressed with the level of training provided to caregivers, and we were very pleased to learn that all Comfort Keeper caregivers passed drug screenings and background checks and benefited from regular training on topics such as Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, heart disease, diabetes, fall prevention, and so much more. But there was no Comfort Keeper franchise in our area. Danielle and I discussed the situation, and it didn't take very long before we agreed that we only wanted to have a caregiver from Comfort Keepers provide in-home health services for my mother. We realized that we surely weren't the only people searching for in-home services for an aging parent nor the only people not satisfied with the services available. I’d retired early from my position as District Manager for American Electric Power and was eager to become an entrepreneur. Becoming a Comfort Keeper franchise owner satisfied both my needs.
Our franchise opened in 2001 and has outgrown its offices as we've added staff to serve our growing list of satisfied clients. One of those clients is my mother! She has received care from our staff since the day our first caregivers completed their training, and she’s referred many of her friends and neighbors to us over the years. And those first caregivers? Many of them remain with us as well. Quality in-home health care services provided by trained caregivers – together, we provide exactly what older adults and their families want and need.
Interactive Caregiving™ is based on four primary pillars, which Comfort Keepers leverage to care for, engage, and interact with our clients:
- An active senior mind promotes independence, better mental and physical health, happiness, and a longer life.
- A physically active senior maintains strength and independence, lessening or delaying the effects of aging.
- A well-nourished senior is more energetic, both physically and mentally.
- A safe senior lives in an environment that reduces the likelihood of accidents and promotes timely response when illness or accidents occur.
With our Interactive Caregiving approach, we are able to raise seniors’ quality of life to a much higher level than typical in home elderly care services.
